Joint Venture with Civil Aviation Technical College, Guangzhou
APAC Education Systems, Hong Kong, has entered into a joint venture agreement in July , with the Civil Aviation Technical College, Guangzhou to form an English Language Centre in the College's campus. APAC will own 55% of the shares and the Civil Technical College will own the remaining portion of the shares.
The prime objective of this new Training Centre is to help the college's students to improve their skills for attaining higher scores in the College English Test (CET). The CET is the
State's organized English bench marking examination for universities students in China. This is pre-requisite for university students to pass the band 4 of CET before they will be awarded the irrespective of what majors they study. The College currently has some three thousand time students and about a thousand part-timers.
The new Training Centre will install the state-of-the-art technology CAN-8 VirtuaLab as one of key tools to elevate students' conversational skills. This is to work hand in hand with the in-class lectures. There will be an initial 26 terminals within the CAN-8 local network and will add to a total of 50 terminals before the end of the year.
The Training Centre will only admit students from the College this year and will eventually open the public from the next year onwards. The duration of each course is 13 weeks or a total of hours including lab hours and classroom hours combined.
The pilot class is scheduled to start on April 10, 2003 and the full scale launch will be in May We expect to fetch some 300 students by the end of 2003 and will reach 800 by the end of.
APAC also owns an English Language Training Institute in Guangzhou equipped with the CAN-8 VirtuaLab which focuses on Business English, the first of this kind in China. Established in 2002 the Institute attracts students from all walks of professions. The student's employers are PepsiCo, Nike, Budweiser, Otis Elevator, Fujitsu, Xerox, Ciba Vision, Atofina, Electrolux and others.
